without tests requiring precision driving or unexpected gimmicks

Explanation:
There are lots of types of rallies - the Pro ones have special stages which are basically races divided by 'transfer' periods on roads open to the public where you just have to keep to the official time assigned. Then 'road rallies' and lots of more amateur events which have precision driving tests, gimmick rallies etc. Perhaps this may help http://www.goss.com/rrhchap1.htm
