first stage/section of the track Explanation: Track is the term usually used for a prepared piste for racing. Course would also be fine, especially if it were for cross-country skiing. However I would use course to define the whole track from start to finish, whereas would use track to talk about the snow conditions, corners, gates on the course, e.g., the first part of the track was icy. Hope this helps. |

(a) first part of the run Explanation: It appears that the text refers to a Masters ski race. 'run' is the usual name to indicate a stretch of skiable piste (the latter term is more generic, and as we're dealing with a skier actually going along the track, the more specific 'run' is best). I'm a Master ski racer in Italy! |
