La tua soluzione va sicuramente bene, puoi usare sia "race" che "competition" per "gara". L'importante è che usi "sailing" piuttosto che "yacht" (yacht competition), visto che questi potrebbero essere "sailing yachts" o "motor yachts".
ps: ho tradotto e traduco manuali di barche a vela, sia da diporto che da competizione

Scusa dimenticavo: aggiungo solo che secondo me \"world\" va meglio di \"international\" poiché il secondo potrebbe riferirsi anche solo ad un ambito continentale (europeo, americano, ecc.).
