The text is about a convoy of 2 tugboats towing a loaded pontoon.

I understand that "in assetto" means they are regularly spaced at the right angle ....
I've found "trim" for assetto, but am not convinced it will work here.

This is the original sentence:

il convoglio era in assetto anche se il mare ed il vento tendevano, smentendo le previsioni della mattinata, a rinforzare.

As you can imagine, the weather is about to get worse and they are going to run into trouble.....
