L'iter dovrebbe essere più o meno questo. La differenziata va ai rispettivi riciclatori (alluminio, vetro, carta), il resto agli impianti Cdr (per combustibile da rifiuti). Questi, con filtri meccanici, separano la parte umida (cibo) da quella secca. E producono tre cose: il Fos, la "frazione organica stabilizzata" da usare come fertilizzante; il sovvallo, lo scarto degli scarti destinato alla discarica; le ecoballe, cubi incelofanati da oltre una tonnellata da mettere al rogo nei termovalorizzatori per ottenere energia.
