La mise au point est l'opération qui consiste à régler l'appareil photo afin que l'image soit nette. Le réglage de cette netteté se fait grâce à l'objectif.

Mais nombre d'autres réglages sont nécessaires pour réussir une photo : l'exposition le temps de pose, les modes de prise de vue, la composition (positionnement du sujet principal, proportion, équilibre de l'image, pour cela, on se sert de "la règle des tiers"), le mode de prise de vue (portrait, macro, paysage, nuit etc), la balance des blancs.....
