Nonostante i lunghi tempi di lavorazione, la concezione iconografica del vestibolo risulta perfettamente unitaria: la critica ha evidenziato come il tema del sacramento del Battesimo

“viene reiterato nella volta nei tre battesimi di sangue, acqua e desiderio; storicizzato nelle lunette con le prefigurazioni veterotestamentarie e l’esempio dei primi neofiti dopo Cristo; ecumenizzato nei pennacchi con l’allargamento alle parti del mondo ivi ospitate” .

die Kritik hat herausgestellt, daß das Thema des Sakraments der Taufe im Gewölbe wiederholt wird in den drei Taufen: mit Blut, Wasser und Verlangen; historisiert wird in den Lünetten mit den alttestamentarischen Vorausdeutungen und dem Beispiel der ersten Neophyten nach Christus, und ökumenisiert in den Pendentiven mit der Ausweitung auf die dort dargestellten Teile der Welt.
