Explanation:
Eigentlich je nach Kontext, wuerde ich sagen. Auf Wikipedia liest man: "Methan ist eine chemische Verbindung aus der Gruppe der Alkane mit der Summenformel CH4. Das farb- und geruchlose, brennbare Gas kommt in der Natur vor und ist ein Hauptbestandteil von Erdgas." Ist also nicht genau dasselbe!

Wenn Du also einen Text ueber Chemie uebersetzt, vielleicht ehere "Methan", einen Text ueber Heizsysteme usw. oder indem Alltagssprache verwendet wird, eher "Erdgas"

  -> Wie schon von mir in der Erklärung erläutert - und von Dir später in der Diskussion geschrieben: "Der gesuchte Begriff ist offensichtlich 'macchina a metano' und nicht 'metano'."
