My experience and knowledge says that it is just an "implied word". For example, in the sentence "character candidate for input." In this the character is a candidate for input. So, do we write the word "Candidate"? no right? We just write as "the character for input".
So, I understand that in the above sentence, the translation is "Input should not display"
