This one keeps cropping up in University student'as testimonials, for example:

これらの経験は社会に出て働く私の糧となっています。

They're talking about how their experiences at University helped them in the world of work.

The ideas I had were "bread and butter" or "sustenance", but it sounds a bit weak.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could express this well in English.

"Source of inspiration" seems nice.

The word "inspiration" reminded me of a note Ichiro wrote to one of his fans, who in Seattle, which goes; "Your unique and faithful way of cheering was a constant inspiration to me." This, I suppose, could be described in Japanese as; "あなたなりの心のこもった応援が私の心の糧でした"

Asker: Thanks for your quick reply! The first link you provided doesn't work. The second link is to the dictionary which I use, so I'm already aware of what it says there. The problem is that we don't usually use "nourishment", "food for thought" etc. to talk about how university helps us in our working lives. I thought there might be some other phrase out there which fits the context nicely.
