Japanese term or phrase: 日射さえぎり...................
日射さえぎり白雲増やす大気微粒子
farida
Local time: 14:49
English translation:blocks sunlight
Explanation:
It's a shortened expression for 日射をさえぎり.

So as a sentence it should be "air particulates that block sunlight and increase white clouds" or something.

According to Japan Weather Association's website, 白雲(white cloud) is a general term for 巻雲 or 筋雲(both are called cirrus).

So it should be just "white cloud" or more scientifically "cirrus".

Asker: Thankyou for that. May I also know if 白雲 is just white cloud or is there a scientific term for this?

agree  sandhya_k: I agree. さえぎり comes from 遮る (さえぎる) which means 'to obstruct', 'to block'.

neutral  Troy Fowler: IMHO "sunlight" may be slightly off the mark. Also, I think you parsed the sentence wrong, and it should read in English, "Air particulates that increase white clouds that block solar radition." Kind regards.

-> Thank you for your comment. I agree that "sunlight" may sound strange. However I don't think I parsed it wrong since the original text is "日射さえぎり", not "日射さえぎる". So they block sunlight(or insolation) and at the same time increase white clouds.

reflect sunlight

Explanation:
For another option.

"While the aerosols reflect sunlight back to space, ....."

I think 大気微粒子 here means "aerosol", which is a meteorological term.

According to some references here, it seems that aerosols don't form any specific type of "white clouds". So, ”白雲" here must be more general word, for example "fog" or "cloud".

For me, 白雲 here seems like something related to air pollution, when thinking of the impact of aerosols on environment.

disagree  Troy Fowler: さえぎる is "block" or "obstruct", whereas "reflect" would be 反射させる、or 跳ね返る.

blocks insolation or solar radiation

Explanation:
日射さえぎり白雲増やす大気微粒子

English translation:
* Aerosols that increase insolation-blocking white clouds.
* Aerosols that increase white clouds that obstruct solar radiation.

The technical term for 日射 is "solar radiation" or "insolation." "Sunlight" would probably be fine, but if this is a technical document, then I suggest using "solar radiation" or "insolation" which is very different than "sunlight." "Sunlight" in Japanese is 太陽光、 whereas 日射 is referring to radiation energy from the sun, and includes both sunlight, and other forms of radiation (like infrared).

Good luck.
