Asker: Thank you for your helpful suggestion. At the moment I am toying with "humanity forms a positive/valuable part of the global ecosystem". Daniel - it doesn't really matter whether this is future tense or not because the phrase occurs is many times and in many forms throughout the lengthy essay :)
