Japanese term or phrase: 書体の懐

I'm specifically wondering what 懐 is. Google is failing me on finding the exact English term for this. From what I understand it apparently has to do with the spacing? But it doesn't seem like I can find any sites that associate it with that term in English. What's the appropriate way to refer to a font's 懐 in English?

I think cinefil has the right answer, but for the source 書体の懐, you should add "typeface" - which is more accurate than font, btw.

Still, "typeface counter" doesn't exactly refer to the size of the counters like 懐 does, so a better phrase might be "typeface counter size."

The word "proportionality" normally refers to spacing taken up by a given character (that is, external proportionality), like in the "proportional" - "mono-spaced" distinction, but I think you could get away with implying that it refers to the relative sizes of counters/lines within characters.
