agree  mstkwasa: According to 弁護士法（８・９条） one has to register as such at the "Japan Federation of Bar Associations" (日弁連). Japan dose not have the barrister/solicitor divide as in some common law states. "Attorney(-at-law)" since this person can plead a case.
