Each jurisdiction has its own inheritance law. So, even if you translate the term into English, such as "secondary succession", the translation will not mean much unless your audience are familiar with the Japanese inheritance law.

Asker: Yes, as you say I found it an unusual concept. The best I came up with was "inheritance on death of surviving spouse" (and yes it really irks me that that description is actually a tautology!)
