I am currently translating the operating manual for Shimadzu Optical Emission Spectrometer PDA-7000. The term is found at the cleaning and maintenance section. I have no idea what it is, but Google translated it to "Break-in discharge". Further research brought me to these definitions;

"ならし放電とは、試料を実際にプラズマ処理する前に行われる放電である"

However, since both are elaborating the plasma treatment, I don't think that it could be applied in this context. I hope there is someone here who could help me figure this out.

Asker: It seems that the spectrometer electrode will accumulate sample deposit residue throughout the usage-life-cycle, and this would contaminate and compromise the spectroanalysis result. Similar unintended accumulation of deposit phenomenon occurs in battery, which have the unwanted effect of reducing the battery life or capacity. I have considered "Normalizing discharge" instead of "break-in discharge", but since the principal and process of cleaning the electrode is similar to "Breaking-in a rechargeable battery (e.g. Li-Ion battery)", I eventually selected "break in discharge" instead since it seems to stick to the original Japanese meaning.
