1段落ち込んだ縁付き構造

English translation: the board is recessed with a side cover

Japanese term or phrase: 1段落ち込んだ縁付き構造
Context:

天板・棚板共に使用する面は積載物の落下防止のため、1段落ち込んだ縁付き構造になっています。

Best I can come up with "one step dropped design." Sounds awkward, though. 縁付き seems to not really translate to anything more than just meaning "with" in most contexts, am I correct?

Thanks for any help.

English translation:the board is recessed with a side cover
Explanation:
I think the 縁 is protruding perpendicularly to the board so that the load won't fall off.

In another word, it's pan-shaped.

縁 may be something like the fringe in this photo. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Copal-0-20mm-Recessed-Lens-Board-110...

agree  Marc Brunet: would prefer: tray is recessed with a raised flange. What do you think?

Asker: Thanks, this actually helps a ton! Though when comparing the translations you can see some stuff that comes off awkward sounding, particularly the line this post was made for. Great reference, though!
