Japanese term or phrase: 歯のやにを取る
I saw this on lots of Japanese toothpaste websites but cannot find the English meaning at all.
What is 歯のやに anyways.

I found the following about やに
①樹皮から分泌する粘液。樹脂。
②タバコの燃焼から生じる粘液。
③目脂めやに。

So I'm guessing this means "remove stains from tobacco"?

English translation:removes tobacco stains (from teeth).
Explanation:
I basically agree with what you wrote but "removes tobacco stains (from teeth)" sounds better in English than "removes stains from tobacco". The nuance is different. Anyhow, hope this helps.
