Japanese term or phrase: Tomoe
Hello... In general, would "Tomoe" be a girl's or a guy's name? I don't have any kanji, just a name in an e-mail. I am inclined to think it is a woman, but not sure.

Thanks.

English translation:Yes, usually a woman's name.
Explanation:
Hi.
I've known a number of females
named Tomoe. Haven't known any
males named Tomoe, though one can't
rule that out. I've known a male "Junko"
and a famous fighter named "Sanae".

But you should be safe assuming Tomoe
is a female.

Didn't mean to slight any female fighters
out there--the "Sanae" I referred to is a male:

agree  KathyT: Yep. You're right, although most likely female, there's a chance this name is male - anything's possible.

agree  Tokyo_Moscow: Definetily female. Haven't met any of Tomoe guys for 15 years living in Japan

agree  Mark Kellner: I agree that it's most likely a woman's name.

agree  Will Matter: The vast majority of names for women (historically, anyhow) are two syllables plus -ko or -e. For example, Sachiko, Fumiko, Sachie, Fumie, Tomiko, Tomoe, Naoko, Yuriko, ad infinitum.
