I just notice possible typo as Maynard pointed out. It is ・モ(two dots) instead of a little circle on upper right of ・メ which is letter ・ヤ. I guess this is a source of your confusion. If looked up Google or else thinking the word is ・ヤ(p)・ェ・チ・

Great. Many thanks. Incidentally, I did try a google search for ピチオン with a 'p' and lots of hits came up, so it's not just me that got it wrong! They were all clearly some kind of nutrient but it still didn't help with the actual English term.
