The Sun Goddess? Explanation: It's been awfully long since I did anything with the mythology of Japan, but it would appear from the mention of Amaterasu Oomikami in the parentheses after the kana that this is another name for the Sun Goddess. You might want to look in Don Phillipi's translation of the Kojiki to see if you can find the exact name there as one of the variations on Amaterasu's name. |

That should apparently be the Sun Goddess and others. Explanation: Sorry, I wasn't looking carefully. The kana gives two names of gods, and the second one is the Sun Goddess. The subsequent kanji are names of yet other gods which I don't have time to track down. Genealogy of the Japanese Deities Explanation: 主祭神 Head of Enshrined Deity ひこなぎさたけうがやふきあえずのみこと The name of a god which embodies the virtues of "easy delivery, marriage, gift of children, and maritime safty with the satisfaction of a large catch." He is a god four generations after Amaterasu Omikami, or Amaterasu Omikami was his great-great grandfather. The rest of the text is used to prove his divine lineage. As you can see, the names which follow are to show you his blood... The name of his father: 彦火火出見尊 His grandfather: 彦火瓊々杵尊 His great grandfather: 天忍穂耳尊 And his great-great grandfather: おおひるめのむち(天照大神) Therefore justifying the holiness of ひこなぎさたけうがやふきあえずのみこと.
