Japanese term or phrase: 代表値
This one seemed obvious (mean or central value) until I encountered the following sentence talking about input parameters that are used for calculations.

その平均値を代表値として出力される。

In other words, "their average values were output as means (!!??).

Which to me seems like a dumb thing to say since mean and average are the same. In statistics, there is of course the notion of central tendency. But in this case, what would be a good workaround. Is there a more general meaning for 代表値? "representative value" "central value" .... ???

Thanks for looking.
