when talking about general statics in English, the gender of answerers can be described as MEN/WOMEN or MALE/FEMALE??

man、woman　(men, women)は成年の男、女という個体を表す言葉で、ご質問の内容であれば生物学的な性別の男（性）（の）、女（性）（の）ですので、性別、という分け方で、male, femaleが適切だと思います。

I think this question may boil down to a matter of preference, but if I were personally translating that sentence, in a statistical report document, I would choose to use "male/female". But that's just my preference!
