Japanese term or phrase: 乗せて育てるプラス思考
スポーツの世界では、74年以来31年ぶりにプロ野球日本一を達成したロッテの見事な戦いぶりには感動を覚えました。アジア日本一にもなりバレンタイン監督の「乗せて育てるプラス思考」の管理手法には多くの学ぶべきモノがありました。

I have identified バレンタイン監督 as being Coach Bobby Valentine. However, I have looked on Google, etc. to find this 「乗せて育てるプラス思考」 with no luck. It sounds like something for which English may already exist, because he is an American.

Does anyone know? If you don't know the actual English, any guesses as to what "乗せて育てる" means would be helpful, because I have no idea what this even means...
Thanks.

Bobby Way carrot vs. traditional stick
Explanation:
is how Anthony Faiola put it in the Washington Post.

In North America, we raise our children by praising them. In psychology, it's called "positive reinforcement."

Japanese athletic teams and companies favor the stick, humiliating and even physically beating subordinates in front of others.

Thanks, everyone, for your answers. I used "positive reinforcement", because it made the most sense, especially in the context Maynard mentioned, about the typical way Japanese athletic teams are managed.
