a 3-lane 25-meter pool and a 6-lane 25-meter pool Explanation: a 3-lane 25-meter pool and a 6-lane 25-meter pool It seems that an expression like "x-lane y-meter pool" is used widely. Using "y-meter pool with x lanes", "a 25-meter pool with 3 lanes and a 25-meter pool with 6 lanes" is also possible. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2005-01-17 17:18:55 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Instead of ¥"25-meter¥", using ¥"25m¥" seems to be poplular, too. http://www.google.com/search?q="lane 25m pool" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2005-01-17 17:33:13 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- In Google: 523 examples of ¥"... lane 25-meter pool¥" 106 examples of ¥"... lane 25-meter swimming pool¥" http://www.google.com/search?q="lane 25-meter swimming pool" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2005-01-18 15:44:35 (GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- I think that saying ¥"two pools with 3 25-meter lanes and 6 25-meter lanes¥" may be confusing, although the Japanese expression looks like this. Since my rendition includes two noun phrases connected with ¥"and¥" (i.e., ¥"a ... Noun and a ... Noun¥"), it refers to the expression in Japanese. For clarification, in ¥"25M3コースと25M6コースの2面のプール¥", both ¥"25M3コース¥" and ¥"25M6コースの¥" modifies ¥"プール¥", and, furthermore, ¥"2面の¥" also modifies ¥"プール¥". So, the quantifier ¥"2面の¥" cannot modify ¥"25M6コースの¥" backwards. If you want the quantifier ¥"2面¥" to modify ¥"25M6コース¥", the expression has to be ¥"25M6コース2面のプール¥". Since ¥"25M6コース¥" and ¥"2面¥" are connected without a conjunct, ¥"2面¥" in this case modifies ¥"25M6コース¥", and, furthermore, the whole ¥"¥"25M6コース2面の¥" modiflies ¥"プール¥", which means ¥"two 25-meter 6-lane pools¥".
