Latin term or phrase: laus urbis
I think this means something along the lines of 'praise of a city' but what is its use in the following Italian context? I don't think English speakers would be familiar with the term - in fact there are only 7 hits on uk google (and none explanatory) so i think I will have to translate it. I have also posted it in the Italian - English question category
Any ideas?
Context: Berlin

Sentence:

Nonostante gli sforzi delle istituzioni, a Berlino si innalza ancora una laus urbis del provvisorio e dell’indefinito, garante di una libertà che non sembra più conquista, ma già diritto.

laus urbis or urban praise
Explanation:
This phrase is normally used in Latin but just in case you want a translation into English, I like this one: urban praise, I think it fits your

Thanks. In the context however, I used monument/eulogy to the city. Thanks too to the others for their input.

glory/pride of the city

Explanation:
I wish I knew more Italian, but I guess the meaning is closer to what I wrote above than to "praise"

urban encomium

Explanation:
or simply praise of the city.
Encomium is the genre of the laus in English. It's a 5 dollar word, as my grandfather would say, so the audience would be important.

-> It's actually Greek in origin, and it's the technical term for the genre. It's up to the asker to determine audience.
