agree  Jim Tucker (X): SocieTAS -- stress is not on the e -- this is why we get società in Italian

agree  Alexander C. Thomson: Stress on first syllable; last syllable is long. You can be hypercorrect and pronounce the ‘c’ hard (i.e. ‘sock-’), but the most widely-understood correct pronunciation would be SOSS-ee-eh-taahs VAIR-bee dee-VEE-nee (sorry for silly-looking rendition).

agree  Joseph Brazauskas: The accent depends upon which method of Latin pronunciation is to be employed, viz. the Restored (Classical), the Ecclesiastical (Mediaeval), or the various national pronunciations. I would here employ the Ecclesiastical method, for obvious reasons.
