I agree with Matthew Rubush that the Latin quoted is not gramatically complete, and that 'promovisse' needs a verb to depend on. One would expect the document to start 'We, Bishop of XX, hereby declare that we'... In this context the phrase asked for would mean 'have advanced/promoted in the Lord [to the holy rank of Priest]'.
But is this a bona fide certificate or a literary imitation of one? It is very surprising that the name Pedrus Paramus is in the nominative rather than the accusative case, given its grammatical context. |
