Norwegian term or phrase: vore vikar stundom
In a short biography of a man from Voss, Norway (1809-1889), it explains that he "vart i 1833 frigjeven frå hertenesta til lærer i Evanger..." (i.e. had been released from military service in 1833 to become a teacher in Evanger). However, the meaning of the following line eludes me: "Han hadde alt sidan 1831 vore vikar stundom." Any suggestions?
