A service provided by an IT services provider. I know this is about the day-to-day running/maintenance of a system, but what is the general term in English?

My understanding is that the IT company might provide basic IT operations such as a Windows platform, virus protection, an office package and internet connection with firewall. Applications such as Trados, Indesign etc. would have to be provided by the client. So, to answer your question, in my (albeit limited) experience it is fine to say that the IT company provides 'basic operations'

agree  Per Bergvall: Basic is better than core. IT service providers never provide core operations for customers - that's the customer's business.

-> Thanks Per, and I agree with your comment. I was thinking of core IT operations, but I can see now it is best to steer clear of the word.
