notice of proceedings Explanation: From the perspective of an American ex-lawyer who is familiar with the vagaries of translating procedural terminology used by the Scandinavian legal systems into English that might be read by British and American lawyers and non-lawyers, one would refer to the authoritative "Norsk-engelsk juridisk ordbok" by the late Professor Åge Lind: "Det begrepet som best dekker norsk "stevning" er sannsynligvis "notice of proceedings", som brukes i Australia og New Zealand, men ikke i USA eller England." You will travel long and far before you find a better solution to this. I quit a long time ago, thanks to the purchase of this dictionary nonpareil. |

(E&W: civ.) originating process; (Scots) initial writ Explanation: Not an originating a.k.a. construction summons, as that refers only to a a request to the judge to interpret a legal doc. or even translation. Assumed that there is neither any private criminal prosecution, nor subequent 'statements of case' (pleadings) issued. NB it's EN Common law: British would include Scotland where, incidentally, notice of proceedings would start off an eviction from land process. Example sentence(s):
