Krohn Explanation: Crane is an English nickname from the bird, derived from Old English cranuc = crane, heron (heron wasn't a separate word until the 1300's). It described the tall, thin man with the long legs. German cognates include Karnch, Kranich, Krohn ; the Low German form is Krahn ; Dutch = Kraan; Flemish = De Craen .
