I think the phrase is "Savner du salt savner du alt" ( I have never heard the verb lavner in Norwegian)

The translation would be:
"Food without salt has little taste"

I even found a hit in www.google.com on that "proverb" (in Norwegian)and here they gave that "translation/description" of that phrase
