Well, the simultaneous use of "The Norwegian Labour and Welfare service" and "The Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration" by the same agency now has me uncertain. See http://www.nav.no/English/The Norwegian Labour and Welfare A... but see the translations of the annual reports through 2009 at http://www.nav.no/English/The Norwegian Labour and Welfare A...

Perhaps in a couple of hours we'll have some input here from folks on the ground in Norway who can resolve this. I'd advise waiting at this point.

Example sentence(s):
  • The Norwegian Labour and Welfare Service (NAV) plays a broad participatory role in the world of work and society, and contributes to the financial security of the individual.

agree  Dawn Nixon: There has been a name change since 2009. In response to Jeffrey's comment I would like to point out that the Child Welfare Service does not come under NAV, this is a separate entity called 'Barnevernet'.

neutral  Christopher Schröder: There is a difference between the administration and the service; I call NAV administration

  -> Hard for us taxpayers in the U.S to distinguish between the administration by, and the so-called "service" from, our own Internal Revenue Service, which dwarfs NAV in its size and impact. ;-)

neutral  brigidm: I use "Administration", and I think it is the best description of what NAV actually is.

  -> Thanks.

neutral  alexandratheres: I agree with Brigid. It says administration on the English version of their website

  -> Well, actually it says a number of things on the English versions of their website. See the links above.
