Norwegian term or phrase: oppslåer
A device used to prepare samples for fiber analysis of materials that are going into sewer systems:

"Prøvene ble slått opp i en oppslåer for å desintegrere prøvene."

I'm tempted to use "chopper" or "grinder", but I think those are inadequate. My sister with the ChemE PhD is unavailable, so you're my best hope!

pulper
Explanation:
In papermaking, 'oppslått masse' and 'oppslutte' are types of paper pulp or raw stock, so here "pulper" may fit as being a slightly heavier machine than a mixer or chopper. Grinder would be more of machine for solids.

Pulpers can be relatively small and suitable for lab work, see

Notes to answerer
Asker: This happens to be at a testing lab, not a paper manufacturer. Is it likely that a lab would be using a pulper, however small one might be? I don't know, which is why I ask.

Asker: Thanks! I'll award the points as soon as possible.
