This isn't really a request for translation options (because było było) but a cultural one: when did THIS THING* become such a common phrase used to express anything from ''fits in'' to ''references'' to ''relates'' to ''is vaguely connected in some contemporary, intellectual and funky way which I am not sure how to express'' and can anything be done to stop it?

...apart from translating all the new instances with ''inscribe''?


* I don't mean the older figurative meaning of 'becomes a permanent/organic part of' but examples such as 'widownia cudownie wpisała się w atmosferę' na przykład.

So, dear translators, what do you do with 'wpisuje się'?

zauważyłem, że od jakiegoś czasu bardzo popularnym stał się zwrot wpisywać się w coś 'pasować' (np. „Jego malarstwo wpisuje się w duch epoki”). Czy nie sądzą Państwo, że ten zwrot (obok innych „modnych” wyrazów, takich jak generalnie czy praktycznie) powinien zostać uznany normatywnie za niepoprawny?

Wyrazy modne nie są z definicji niepoprawne, bywają tylko nadużywane, a i to nie w ogóle, tylko w niektórych tekstach. O nadużywaniu czasownika wymienionego w pytaniu nawet PWN-owski słownik poprawnej polszczyzny milczy, choć na punkcie wyrazów modnych jest dość wyczulony (by nie powiedzieć, że przeczulony). Podaje nawet przykład: „W kontekst historyczny autorka wpisuje opowieść o miłości”.
Błąd w zdaniu, które Pan przytoczył, jest, ale gdzie indziej. Powinniśmy napisać: „Jego malarstwo wpisuje się w ducha epoki” (nie w duch).

fit into


Explanation:
I am not sure what kind of answer you expect, but it is used as "fit into", "be part of", I think.

For example:
Jak Twoje cele wpisują się w ogólne cele firmy.

"widownia cudownie wpisała się w atmosferę" sounds artificial to me.
