alternative (non-silver) photographic techniques Explanation: An alternative (non-silver) photographic process is loosely defined as any traditional or historic analog (although I don’t like the term analog) printing process that does not use silver gelatin paper that is commonly used in traditional darkroom printing. There are many alternative processes such as platinum, cyanotype, vandyke, gum bichromate, kallitype, ziatype and salt printing to to name just a few, but the list goes on and on. http://non-silver.com/platinum-palladium/a-world-of-alternat... Non-silver and historic processes are general terms that refer to various photographic processes that do not contain silver in its emulsion or were popular around the turn of the 20th century. Invented during the latter half of the 19th century, these older processes include collodion wet-plate, van dyke brown, gum-bichromate, and cyanotype, among others. Each requires mixing and coating the emulsion by hand. Hence, the resulting images have a painterly quality, an effect often left from the brushstrokes in painting the emulsion and the small inconsistencies and inaccuracies that result from hand processing. http://www.reframingphotography.com/content/non-silver-histo... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2014-07-26 17:28:23 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Another frequently used term in this context is: historic photographic processes/techniques |

gum bichromate photographic technique Explanation: Proposition -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 42 mins (2014-07-26 14:01:49 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Gum bichromate is a 19th-century photographic printing process based on the light sensitivity of dichromates. It is capable of rendering painterly images from photographic negatives. Gum printing is traditionally a multi-layered printing process, but satisfactory results may be obtained from a single pass. Any color can be used for gum printing, so natural-color photographs are also possible by using this technique in layers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gum_bichromate -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2014-07-26 18:18:32 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Szlachetne techniki fotograficzne – techniki graficzne oparte na wykorzystaniu światłoczułości i garbujących właściwości chromianów, a także innych związków światłoczułych, ale też tradycyjnej fotografii jako materiału wyjściowego. classical/historical photographic methods Explanation: Od standardowych technik fotograficznych (analogowych) odróżnia je zarówno niepowtarzalność, jak i wykorzystanie materiałów innych niż światłoczułe sole srebra. Obecnie przeżywają renesans jako przeciwwaga dla zalewu fotografii cyfrowej ------------ As chemical (classical) photography is increasingly replaced with digital photographic technology, there is a danger that this shift will trigger a decrease in scientific research and knowledge regarding chemical photography. - http://www.getty.edu/conservation/our_projects/science/photo... ----------- Those who are interested in individually oriented creation find even greater possibilities in historical photographic processes than in classical photography If we look abroad, we find that ‘alternative’ photographic techniques are steadily gaining in popularity. These are in fact revived historical techniques dating from the beginnings of photography. http://www.ntm.cz/projekty/fototechniky/en/ --------------- The classic tintype process - http://www.alternativephotography.com/wp/processes/wetplate/... -------- |
