leave as is Explanation: There may not be a common name for it since certain flora only grows in specific countries. You may leave it as "jacu" tree and put in parenthesis its scientific name. HTH |

'guan-bird tree' OR: 'jacu-bird tree' Explanation: 'Jacu" is a kind of bird, short for jacuguacu. I found several possibilities, but the following is included on the national list of endangered species: jacuguaçu, jacuaçu. Penelope obscura bronzina (Hellmayr, 1914). Família Cracidae. The English for this is Dusky-legged Guan (see description below) See definition at wikipedia: From http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacu: O Jacu (Penelope obscura) ou Jacuguaçu, é uma ave da familia dos cracídeos, que habita a Mata Atlântica no Brasil, nas regiões Sudeste e Sul do país. Mede aproximadamente 73 cm -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 37 mins (2006-07-14 08:16:38 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- As far as I can tell, it's not a tree at all. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 38 mins (2006-07-14 08:18:03 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- See photo at: http://www.mangoverde.com/wbg/picpages/pic34-24-1.html. I searched for trees named 'jacu', but couldn't find a thing. |
