Trata-se do trecho inicial do resumo de um trabalho científico para uma revista científica da área de biologia tropical:

"O tucumanzeiro (Astrocaryum aculeatum) é uma espécie ainda não domesticada e muito apreciada pela população da região Amazônica. Além disso, trata-se de uma cultura perene e uma alternativa de grande potencial para o desenvolvimento agrícola sustentável da região. As populações espontâneas apresentam grande variabilidade morfológica e *** constituem-se nos recursos genéticos para uso atual ou potencial ***."

Será que significa que populações espontâneas estão geneticamente tão diversificadas que podem ser usadas comercialmente sem diminuir a variedade genêtica?

`para uso atual ou potencial` needs a little more context, but I imagine the authors are suggested they could be exploited in the same way as currently used by the Amazon population or other uses yet to be discovered (or possibly suggested by the authors).

`constituem-se nos recursos genéticos` could be translated as `form part of the world`s genetic resources` - but that could be polemical.
