and in the presence of the witnesses whose names appear on the document.

Absolutely sure, but the credit should really go to Donna Sandin, who helped me with this translation some time ago.

The question here is that isacrat - the asker - did not realize that the word *contantes* has to do with *termo* and not with *testemunhas*.
So: as testemunhas (cujos nomes) constam do termo - witnesses whose names appear on the document (termo).

Isacart, you asked: One thing: the witnesses aren\'t named on the document I\'m translating. Could it be that they are only on the marriage record? (the registry book?) I don\'t think I should say \"named hereunder\", since well, they\'re not..

No, they aren\'t, but they are in the registry book, which is the original document. What you have is probably a marriage certificate, right? Read Donna\'s comment.

neutral  Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X): I think itmeans that are recorded as being the witnesses which is in fact similar to what you are saying
3 mins
-> OK, but where did you get the *on this day* from the source language?

agree  Donna Sandin: this is a shortcut to make it unnecessary to list the witnesses by name. Instead they refer people to the record (the termo in this case).
