I suppose it depends on your definition of traditional. The president of CM Valonga has written in a foreword to these recipes that regueifas are mentioned in documents dating back to 1636. On the dictionary definition of traditional as "long established, dating back a long way", that seems to fit the bill.
I don't know how regueifas are viewed (or even if they are eaten) in Valongo nowadays but these recipes date from between 1880 and 1935.
Several sources say they were customary at Easter, but others disagree, so I didn't include Easter (or sweet) in the glossary entry.
This translation has been finished, proofread and delivered to the client. It is too late now to influence the terminology.
I have to move on now to other jobs, so cannot reply to any more comments fro colleagues, but thank you again for your welcome input.

if your text is talking about Valongo I can assure you the "regueifa" is not a traditional sweet at all, and is not used in Easter.

Just so you know there is also a regular version (not sweet) of regueifa that is traditionally sold on Sundays.
