Portuguese term or phrase: trabalhador-estudante; trimestre curricular

Hello!

I'm a Translation student currently in the middle of a school project where I have to find equivalents of a few academic terms from portuguese to british english.

I am looking for an equivalent term of "trabalhador-estudante", a student who is studying while working on the side. I came across the term "student worker", but from some definitions I've read, a "student worker" is a student who works in the university through some school financial aid projects. Is it the same term to name someone who works outside of university while studying?

Also, the term "trimestre curricular" has been giving me some trouble... What would be more accurate: quarter or trimester?

This can have an official definition according to a state. But some people tend to use it lightly to mean generally that they are working to pay their own fees and living costs - as my examples show.

Example sentence(s):
