Caçao limado Rasped (grated/scraped) dogfish Explanation: This is what I see it as - maybe it is grated, or perhaps the fish is 'scraped' quite harshly, for adding some spices etc... it depends on the recipe! My portuguese is a little limited however I will admit that! |

Caçao limado Shredded dogfish? Explanation: Well, "Limado" means "polished" (as in with a filing or emery board". The only thing I can come up with is shredded dogfish, mostly because it is a dish we eat in Venezuela as well, so that's where the guess comes from... I dunno... |

Caçao limado Dogfish au limon OR Dogfish with lemon Explanation: This is indeed a Portuguese dish (see "cação limado" on http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0257476102/bucha.html#Anchor--So-548 ) "Limar", according to the Moraes Dictionary, Empreza Litteraria Fluminense, 1890, means "temperar com limão". (In the recipe given, however, lemon has been substituted by a cup of vinegar.) |

Caçao limado Dogfish Soup Explanation: I found various references on the internet for "Sopa de Cação ou Cação Limado" and I have listed 2 below. The recipes appear to be the same for all and the only thing that could possibly have to do with limado is that there is vinegar in the recipe. Hope this helps.
