Portuguese term or phrase: Cupuacu
Hi,

I found that it is either translated as "cupuacu" or as "white cocoa tree," but I would like to verify this.

The source text is a list of products and then there are descriptions and list of food products in which they are used.

This is a tree that belongs to the same family as the cacao tree. The fruit is renowned for its vitamin A, pectin, etc.

Thanks,
Patricia

Cupuaçu - do not translate
Explanation:
I would advise you not to translate this word.

It is spelt with a 'ç' cedilla, too.

My opinion - best of luck.

agree  American_Transl: I never found an English word for it. On the other hand, my dictionary translated cajá as “hog-plum,” which is a word no one would know. So I’d use the Portuguese word, with an explanation, in such cases.

-> And it's certainly not 'white cocoa' !! The flesh is pretty similar (but tastier) and the stones (pips) are NOT chewable, but rock-hard, unlike cacau. Also, did you know that 'Cajá' is the name adopted in states like SP and RJ for the fruit 'Taperebá' ?

agree  BLR: I also agree with Richard. Though from the same family, it is different to cocoa, which also yields a delicious white creamy pulp (so 'white cocoa' is very misleading)
