Portuguese term or phrase: miolo [de banana] or [ o caule de bananeira]
I am proofreading a book on nutrition and home remedies and the phrase appears "cortar o caule de bananeira ,retirar o miolo, triturar e levar o fogo". You mix this with honey, cook for 10 minutes and then you drink the "sopa". The Brazilian translator put "inner core" for "miolo" but that doesn't sound right to my native ears! Is the text referring to black bit with little seeds which runs through the banana? or something inside the stem of the banana tree? if so, do we have a word for this in English? or do you think the "miolo" is just the flesh of the banana in general? can anyone visualise what they are talking about? many thanks

miolo
heart

Explanation:
Jugding by the source text, it can't be the banana itself.

Seems like you do cook the heart of the trunk and eat it just like the heart of palm. Check the provided link.

Note that the delicacy is usually called banana stem. Check second link for photos.

Note: don't confuse it with the banana heart, which is another thing. But the "inner core" in these cases are usually called heart, too.

neutral  Muriel Vasconcellos: You're in the right part of the plant, but the anatomy of the banana is very different from that of a palm. See my comment in the discussion.
