valance
Explanation:
My daughter works in this business, and has always referred to this as a valance. I have never heard the term "pelmet," although perpaps it's used in the UK.

I checked Google, and it seems that the references to "pelmet" are all from the UK. So maybe that's the distinction. If your document is British English, go for pelmet, if not, then it's valance.

neutral  Denise Miranda: perhaps, like in Brazil, you have different names in different regions. Check this US site with tons of pelmets http://www.interiormall.com/cat/corporate.html. I did not say your translation was incorrect (see: NEUTRAL). I'm sorry if you understood that.

-> But this doesn't mean that "valance" isn't correct! Your neutral is not called for.

neutral  rhandler: Have you noticed that the option "valance" was also suggested by Paula, 15 hours before?

-> Yes, but I felt it was important to stress that this is the most common term used for it. I have been sewing for over fifty years (and as I mentioned, my daughter is in the curtain/slipcover business) and neither of us has ever heard the word "pelmet."
