Looking for a general term. I don't think attorneys would work for 'Procuradores' lato sensu. Public prosecutors? Perhaps.

I know PROCURADORIA GERAL DA REPÚBLICA would be equivalent to the OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES.
Nevertheless, over there it is part of the USDOJ, whereas in Brazil PROCURADORES do not report to the 'Ministro da Justiça.'

To make matters worse, there are PROUCURADORIAS (AND PROCURADORES!) at several Government entities and agencies, i.g., Procuradoria da Fazenda.

Junto ao poder público, procurador é quem representa, conforme determinado em lei, uma pessoa jurídica de direito público ou um órgão público, seja no processo judicial, seja em questões extrajudiciais. A lei é que determina quais os poderes conferidos ao procurador.
Podem ser procuradores de municípios, de estados, ou federais. Podem também representar especificamente uma autarquia ou fundação pública.

No Ministério Público federal (brasileiro), todos os integrantes são chamados de procuradores (ou seja, não há promotor federal.)

Entendo que o colega esteja procurando o termo geral equivalente para procurador. Ou seja, um termo não específico.

Pela referência abaixo, vi o termo "attorney" ser usado para o caso de proteção ao consumidor. Espero que ajude.

It may be worth reading this Wikipedia article and then decide what you want to use for your translation....is your target readers/client in the U.S. ? For the US, I tend to agree with Marlene's posting, but if you want a more generic term, then it's a tough decision :)
