charter
Explanation:

carta de mercê = alvará:
https://books.google.com.br/books?id=fC87AAAAYAAJ&pg=PA65&lp...

charter = an official agreement or statement that makes rules for something
(MacMillan)

https://books.google.com.br/books?id=cZAvAQAAMAAJ - Translate this page

Notes to answerer
Asker: Obrigada, Matheus!

Notes to answerer
Asker: Obrigada pela explicação! Encontrei "charter of donation". "Letter of donation" parece estar muito associada com a religião cristã.

agree  Catherine Howard: Letter of concession or of donation are both good. "Letter"is better than "charter" since private citizens could also give land this way. They weren't just religious, but carried the force of law. Religion & politics were closely linked at the time.

Explanation:
An Anglo-Saxon equivalent if you want to avoid the religious ties and connotations:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letters_patentLetters patent (always in the plural) are a type of legal instrument in the form of a published written order issued by a monarch, president, or other head of state, generally granting an office, right, monopoly, title, or status to a person or corporation.
