Concordo com você, Jane, que falta contexto (o problema de sempre) para se chegar a uma sugestão mais apropriada. Também concordo que não se diz de forma informal “I’m going to the optical store now, honey.” Você diz “I’m going to the store to get my whatever done.” ou “I’m going to LensCrafters now (or whatever the name of the store is) to get my whatever done.” Assumindo-se assim que você já tem a receita médica.

Minha sugestão é baseada na informação que a Carla deu “ESTABELECIMENTO onde apresentamos a receita prescrita pelo oftalmologista (ou oculista), para fazer óculos de grau, óculos de sol, lentes de contato, etc.” ou seja, não é ir ao optometrist/eye doctor etc (você já foi lá, pelo menos no Brasil), é ir para aquela ótica no centro da cidade, no shopping etc onde o cara vai pegar a receita que o optometrist/eye doctor etc lhe deu e fazer seus óculos, lentes, etc. Isso, para mim, é uma “optical store”.

“I’m going to the optician’s” funciona, mas na minha opinião, num contexto mais informal. Ms se você abre lá as páginas amarelas, vai estar ‘optical store’ OU ‘optical retailer’, de novo, tudo DEPENDE do contexto.
