O Programa Árvore da Vida é composto de 5 projetos que tem como objetivo, transformar a cadeia produtiva do extrativismo da carnaúba no Território Jaguaribe-Açu, em cadeia de valores, visando melhorar todo o processo; diminuir etapas; implantar novas tecnologias e torná-las accessíveis; aumentar a renda dos carnaubeiros; pesquisar novas utilidades para os derivados da carnaúba; criar Unidades de Conservação de carnaúba etc. A carnaúba é uma palmeira e a extração de suas palmas ocorre na estiagem, sem nenhum prejuízo a planta, servindo de meio de convivência com a seca, fenômeno climático cíclico desta Região do país, época em que o sertanejo não tem de onde tirar seu sustento. Trabalhamos com uma espécie endêmica do Nordeste brasileiro, que gera renda para milhares de carnaubeiros e encontra-se ameaçada e um público de extrativistas e artesãos em sua maioria excluídos. Um dos projetos fornece esteiras de fibra de carnaúba na cadeia do petróleo e gás no Vale do Açu, outro projeto implantou novas tecnologias de extração e secagem da palma da carnaúba, outro criou um ponto estratégico de comercialização do artesanato da carnaúba e o mais recente pretende reflorestar áreas devastadas. Todas as inovações podem ser aplicadas em outras comunidades e biomas.
